Repeal "Chemical Weapons Protocol"

Post  Marquette (of Pacific) on Fri Nov 01, 2013 11:05 am

Located here, I believe our delegate should vote FOR this resolution.

We believe that, while there are indeed flaws in the original Chemical Weapons Protocol Act, we should vote for most revocations of acts in the World Assembly as the WA infringes on the sovereignty of nations. One less law that binds us to the will of other nations is one more thing our national governments can do by themselves. Cut down international government!!

Aloia respectfully disagrees with Marquette. We believe that our delegate, New Zealand, should be allowed to vote however he wants. The endorsement process is as much an election as any election hosted here on the forums. If Marquette wants the delegate to vote a certain way, then Marquette can campaign to become the delegate and vote how he wants.

I agree with Aloia.
But, we have also to take into account that this thread had two main functions: to show to all WA members the activities of our Delegate (possibly coordinating the votes of all countries of the WA) and, at the same time, to allow all interested Member States to express advises to the Regional Delegate about particular resolutions.
Obviously, this mean simply to call for the attention of the Delegate over a particular question the State believe to be of regional or national interest. Then, the delegate has the duty/right to analyze the situation on his own, thus making a decision.
It is absolutely forbidden to force the Delegate to take a specific position. He has complete freedom over this field.
I am sure that Marquette wanted only to suggest a line of action to the Delegate, which is nothing wrong. Maybe his language appeared a bit "strong", thus making NZ and Aloia to believe he was obliging the Delegate to vote in that particular direction.

Also, I would like to ask to the Delegate to make as soon as possible his choice for the Deputy Delegate, and, if he think to be necessary, of the Special Commission, as explicitly provided by Art. 4, paragraph 2 and 4 of our Constitution.

Guys... I specifically said "believe" and "should" at the very beginning of my statement. You're right Aloia, we basically elected him by giving him our endorsement, and just like lots of people do with their representatives in Congress, I'm just giving my elected representative my opinion as to how I think he should vote, that is all.

The resolution is no longer at vote, and I don't know the outcome, sorry.
